Alastair Young

Alastair has been a fixture of the Johnson Partnership for over 20 years and a partner since 2009; he was responsible for setting up the Prison law department in 2005 and has been involved in representing prisoners for a number of years in various challenges to the parole board, ministry of Justice and prison service. On a number of occasions he has successfully brought judicial review proceedings in the High Court against these agencies, quashing decisions considered illegal on behalf of clients. Theo Addae

Theo graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 1999 and joined The Johnson Partnership the following year. In the Crown Court Department he became our first trainee to win the prestigious Hammond Cup for advocacy. He qualified as a Solicitor in 2003, gained Higher Rights in 2007 before becoming a Partner in 2009. Theo has an excellent record of achieving positive outcomes for his clients from members of the general public to high profile individuals and professional sportspeople. He is a tenacious and formidable trial advocate .

Donna qualified in March 2001 and joined The Johnson Partnership in October 2011, becoming a partner in 2017. She is now head of the Mansfield office.
Nicola Hornby

Nicola has been with the firm since September 1990, 2 months after The Johnson Partnership was first formed. She qualified as a solicitor in 1995 and was one of the first solicitors in Nottingham to become a Higher Court Advocate (Solicitor Advocate) and regularly appear in the Crown Court. She has conducted cases of all levels as both a litigator and an advocate in the Magistrates’ and Crown Court and the Court of Appeal.
Nicola leads the Business Defence Department and specialises in dealing with all aspects of business crime and fraud. She is also a Peer Reviewer for the Legal Aid Agency, reviewing the work of other solicitors. In her spare time Nicola is the Chair of Governors of a local primary school.

Euan joined the firm in 2005 as part of his degree at Nottingham Law School. He worked in the crown court department before qualifying as a solicitor in 2012 dealing in all aspects of criminal law and prison law, for which he is now Head of the Department.

Yvonne joined Johnsons in March 2003 as a police station clerk at the Nottingham office, having studied Law at Derby University. She went on to pass the LPC at Nottingham Law school and qualified in July 2010, working out of our Mansfield office. She then moved to be supervisor of the Sheffield office in 2017.
Maddy Ashton

Maddy is our exclusive solicitor litigator of the most serious of Crown Court cases. She has extensive experience of representing clients charged with murder and attempted murder. She is known best for her client care skills which always make clients feel at ease when facing the worst period of time in their lives.
She is qualified to represent her clients in both the Crown Court and Magistrates Court having qualified as a Solicitor and Higher Court Advocate in 2021.
She also represents clients in the police station.
She has a Law degree and a Masters degree [specialising in the law surrounding joint enterprise in murder].

Shannon first joined the firm as a Crown Court caseworker in 2015 and is based in our Nottingham office. Shannon also specialises in and is part of our Prison Law team representing a number of clients before the Parole Board and at adjudications.

Originally from Yorkshire, Emma gained her Law degree at Brunel University in London, before completing the LPC at the College of Law. She trained with a Legal Aid practice in North West London, qualifying in 1998, where she remained, practising criminal law and went on to become Partner. She is a qualified Duty Solicitor and Higher Courts Advocate. Emma relocated back to Yorkshire in 2015 and had been working locally as a Consultant and Duty solicitor before joining the Johnson Partnership in 2022. An able advocate, with a wealth of experience across the whole criminal spectrum, Emma has a particular interest in representing young people.

Charlotte Brothwell

Charlotte joined the firm in January 2022 as a crown court clerk whilst completing her LPC part time. Her masters dissertation focused on whether criminal legal aid allows access to justice. Charlotte then became a trainee solicitor, in May 2023 and qualified as a Solicitor in November 2024.
She has a caseload of various offences, but leans towards offences against the person and clients who struggle with their mental health. She also works closely with the Hull office and takes on the majority of crown court cases there too.
Charlotte currently works at the Mansfield Office.

Siân joined The Johnson Partnership on 31st October 2016, as Chris Saunders’ assistant, having just graduated with a degree in Law at Nottingham Trent University. She became an accredited Police Station Representative whilst studying for a Masters in Legal Practice, before going on to become a Trainee Solicitor. Siân is now a qualified Solicitor with vast experience representing clients in the Police Station and Magistrates Court. She is also part of the Prison Law team, representing clients for adjudications and in front of the Parole Board.

Sabrina Kosur joined the firm in November 2007 working in the Call Centre, before working in the Police Station Department as an Administration Assistant. She quickly moved on to become a regular police station adviser.
Following completion of her training contract, Sabrina qualified as a solicitor in December 2023 and qualified as a Duty Solicitor in July 2024.
Sabrina works in the Magistrates Court Team at the Nottingham Office.

Beverley graduated from Derby University in 2022 with a 1st Class LL. B Law Degree, then Joined the Johnson Partnership in October 2022 as a paralegal, initially undertaking the police station accreditation to assist clients in the police station with advice and representations. Beverley then began to study her LPC 2023/2024 part time, whilst also going on to become a Trainee Solicitor. Beverley is now a qualified Solicitor, working towards duty qualification. Mollie is a Leeds Beckett University graduate, where she studied a Law LLB degree and achieved an upper 2:1. She did her Legal Practice Course Masters with the University of Law and is also completed her training contract with the Firm qualifying as a solicitor in 2025.
Mollie works in the Crown Court department situated in our Sheffield office. She spends her days working with clients who are charged with a variety of serious offences and travels across Yorkshire to see them at prisons, courts and offices.

I graduated NTU with a 2.1 in 2023 and went on to complete the Legal Practice Course and Master of Laws in 2024, graduating with a Commendation. In my second year of my undergraduate degree, I undertook a 10 week placement at Johnsons shadowing various advocates and crown court clerks. At the conclusion of this placement I was keen to return.
I came back to work in the Crown Court department in July 2024. I deal with a range of cases, including theft, sexual offences and grievous bodily harm with intent.
Angelika Witasik

Angelika started at Johnson's in 2022 in the office at Mansfield. She finished LLB Law at Derby University with grade 2:1 and doing her LPC at Derby University.
She is a fully accredited police station advisor and Crown Court Caseworker.
In October 2024, Angelika was offered a training contract and hopes to complete this by April 2026.
In the future she hopes to practice as a Higher Court Advocate in the Crown Court.
I have worked at Johnsons since undertaking a 10 week placement at the Mansfield Office during my second year of my undergraduate degree. I was then offered a permanent position in August 2023. During this time I have become an accredited police station representative and have since moved to our Crown Court department in September 2024 in which I litigate a variety of cases including domestic assaults, sexual offences and drug offences. I have a particular interest in litigating cases in which the defendant may be vulnerable and requires extra support throughout their proceedings.
I graduated with a law degree from Nottingham Trent University in 2024 and I am now completing the Legal Practice Course alongside a Masters in Law whilst completing my training contract. Once I qualify I hope to progress into a Higher Court Advocate and continue my work within the Crown Court Department.

Sophie Lydon

Sophie is a current Trainee Solicitor working in the Crown Court Department. She deals with a variety of cases including violent offences and sexual offences. She is also Police Station Accredited, advising at the police station out of office hours.
Sophie graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2020 with a Law degree. She went on to complete the Legal Practice Course and Masters of Law in 2023, starting at the Johnson Partnership in August of the same year.
She completed a 10-week placement with The Johnson Partnership in 2019 prior to graduating and developed an interest in Criminal Law as a result of this. Having started her legal practice in 2021 working in Conveyancing, she found her way back to Criminal because of her inclination to help those caught up in the legal system.
Sophie has a complex case load and you will often see her in the local Crown Courts. Once qualified in April 2026, Sophie will be in the local Magistrates Courts.
Vassilena Kolarova

Vassi graduated in law from De Montfort University with a first class honours degree and became an accredited police station rep in 2019. She has dealt with cases ranging from simple shop theft to murder, rape and drug conspiracies.
Vassi is a solicitor at both our Nottingham and Lincoln Offices. Since joining the Crown Court team, Vassi has developed a diverse and substantial caseload, including matters of murder and manslaughter, serious sexual offences, large-scale drug conspiracies, robbery, grievous bodily harm, and cases involving domestic allegations.
